A regional builder is expanding its footprint in downtown Rochester by moving into a complex it originally built.
Minneapolis-based Kraus-Anderson Construction Co.moved its regional office to a 5,666-square-foot space on the street level of the 501 on Firstbuilding at 501 First Ave. SW on Monday.
The Med City team of 65 Kraus-Anderson employees moved from 416 S. Broadway, where KA had maintained an office since 2012.
"We’ve been bursting at the seams for the last two years," said Nick Leimer, vice president and Rochester director of operations in an announcement. "This strategic move into our new KA-built office will better serve our clients as well as our growing business and staff."
KA built the five-story 501 on First building in 2016. The new office is near Pasquale’s Neighborhood Pizzeriaand Pure Barrewith 84 apartments above it.
The firm is currently working on the Hilton Hotelproject and the adjacent City Parking Ramp No. 6 in downtown Rochester.
The longtime Minnesota builder has been involved with many Rochester projects, including the construction of the nine-story 318 Commons complex on First Avenue Southwest in 2011.
In 1963, it built the Northbrook Shopping Centeron North Broadway, which is now called River Center Plaza. Kraus-Anderson owned the retail center through the 1990s before selling it.
Kraus-Anderson also has regional offices in Madison, Wis., and Bismarck, N.D., as well as two other Minnesota offices in Duluth and Bemidji.
