HELSINKI, Finland — Finland’s Finance Ministry says four Nordic countries will lend Iceland euro2.5 billion ($3.16 billion) to help the country recover from its economic meltdown.
Finance Ministry official Martti Hetemaki says the decision by Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark came after the IMF announced earlier Thursday that it had approved a $2.1 billion (euro1.66 billion) support package for Iceland.
Iceland needs the financing to buy imports and support its currency, which has lost around two-thirds of its value since the beginning of the year because of the collapse of its banking system.
