Mr. Johnson
ROCHESTER -- The funeral for Norman Anthony Johnson of Rochester will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Bethel Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Linda Helberg officiating. Private burial will be in Spring Valley Cemetery.
Mr. Johnson, 78, of Rochester, a retired Minnesota Department of Transportation senior engineer specialist, died of complications of a heart attack Thursday (Sept. 25, 2003) at Saint Marys Hospital.
He was born Aug. 30, 1925, in Minneapolis, graduated from Washington High School and served in the Navy in Hawaii for three years during World War II. After the service, he received a degree in engineering from the University of Minnesota. During most of his 40-year career with the Minnesota Department of Transportation, he worked in Rochester, his final project being the 37th Street bridge reconstruction. His first wife, the former Ethel Brown, died in 1984. On June 15, 1991, he married Janet Jeche Rensland in Lake City. She survives. They spent winters at their homes on Lake City Marina Point, South Padre Island, Texas, and in Tempe, Ariz. Mr. Johnson was a member of American Legion Post 92. He was a sports fan and enjoyed watching the Minnesota Gophers, Twins and Vikings.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ranfranz &; Vine Funeral Homes and an hour before the service Monday at the church.
