BLOOMING PRAIRIE — The funeral for Norman D. Swanson will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie, with the Rev. Karl Korbel officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Hayfield.
Mr. Swanson, 80, of Blooming Prairie, died Saturday (Nov. 22, 2008) at Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield.
Norman Dean Swanson was born March 12, 1928, at home in Klemme, Iowa. He went to school in Ventura, Iowa, and farmed with his father. On July 24, 1948, he married Pearl Joy Matoon in Britt, Iowa. They farmed in Iowa until 1960, then moved to the Hayfield area where they farmed until 1990. At that time they moved to Blooming Prairie.
Mr. Swanson loved to fly and was a member of Flying Farmers. He was active in the local Camping Club, was a board member of the PCA, and served on the church board at Crane Community Chapel in Austin for a number of years. He and his wife wintered in Mesa, Ariz., where he was active in shuffleboard and tennis.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, Randy (Carol) of Hayfield, Craig (Diane) of Verona, Wis., Kim (Marian) of Canyon City, Texas, Jeff (Susan) and Mike (Wendy), both of Hayfield; 20 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marcele Lindquist of Naples, Fla.; and two brothers, Ronald (Darlene) of Forest City, Iowa, and Eugene (Deanna) of Jacksonville, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Martha (Grieman) Swanson.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home, and an hour before the service Wednesday at the church.
