NOTEBOOK Lacrosse club whips Owatonna

The Rochester Area Club Lacrosse team beat Owatonna 12-2 Thursday afternoon in a match played at the Rochester Athletic Club.

Adam Gruver and Travis Emmert scored four goals for Rochester, which improved to 4-1 on the season. Also scoring were Joe Wente, Tom Wendt, Andy Johnson and L.J. Stead. Seth Campbell and Casey Moffit split duties in the net.

Rochester next plays at 1 p.m. Saturday against Superior, Wis., also at the Athletic Club.

MCCC baseball tournament here

Eight teams are competing this weekend in the Minnesota Community College Conference basetball tournament which is being played this weekend at both Rochester Community and Technical College fields along with Mayo Field.

RCTC played Central Lakes in its opening game at 10 a.m. today. If the Yellowjackets win their opener they would meet the winner between Ridgewater and Mesabi Range at 3 p.m. today at Mayo Field.

Tournament passes are $10 adults and $6 students. Daily passes are $6 adults, $4 students.

Rochester Cup at Volleyball Center

The seventh annual Rochester Cup, a volleyball tournament for 14-16-year-old girls, will be played Saturday and Sunday at the National Volleyball Center. There are 16 teams in the 14-division and 28 in the 16 division.

Admission is $4 adults and $2 students. The tournament is being sponsored by the Rochester Amateur Sports Commission. The schedule is at www.rochsports.com
