John ‘Jack’ Fisher — Stacyville, Iowa

STACYVILLE, Iowa — The funeral for John "Jack" Fisher was at 11 a.m. today at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville, Iowa; the Rev. John Moser officiated. Burial was in Visitation Cemetery, Stacyville.

Mr. Fisher, 87, of Stacyville, died Thursday (Oct. 30, 2008) at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center.

He was born April 26, 1921, in Havelock, Iowa. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and farmed all his life. He was given the name the Original Recycler because he liked to recycle anything he could. He enjoyed going to auctions, playing cards, going to dances and socializing, and was a member of the Foresters.

Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Hackenmiller of Stacyville; a son, John Jr. of Woodbridge, Va.; six grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; five brothers, Ted (Lu) of Fairmont, Minn., Dan of Algona, Iowa, Vic of LuVerne, Iowa, George of Livermore, Iowa, and Paul of Torrance, Calif.; and best friend, Katheryn. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian; a son, Richard; his parents, Ted and Lena (Shawbacker) Fisher; four brothers and two sisters.
