AUSTIN — The funeral for Earl C. Hackensmith was at 10:30 a.m. today at Mayer Funeral Home in Austin; the Rev. Dennis Tamke officiated. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery, Austin.
Mr. Hackensmith, 82, of Austin, died Sunday (May 4, 2008) at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.
He was born May 20, 1925, in Brownsdale. Raised in the Austin area, he graduated from Austin High School and lived in the Austin area all his life. Mr. Hackensmith was a retired employee of Hormel Foods Corp., with 43 years of service. He loved fishing and being outdoors.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys (Wolfe), whom he married on March 20, 1965, in Austin; three daughters, Carol Jean Bailey and Lucinda (Phil) Buck of Austin, and Nancy (Gregory) Caufield of Bloomington, Minn.; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters.
Mayer Funeral Home of Austin was in charge of arrangements.
