Herbert W. ‘Herb’ Taylor — Stewartville

STEWARTVILLE — Herbert W. "Herb" Taylor, 85, a longtime resident of Stewartville, died Thursday (Nov. 20, 2008) at Olmsted Medical Center in Rochester, where he had been a patient for two days, following a short illness.

He was born Dec. 26, 1922, in rural Dodge County. He moved with his family as a child to rural Mower County, where he attended country school and worked on the family farm.

He married Maxine E. Janssen on March 13, 1943, in Stewartville. She survives. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Stewartville, where they have lived ever since.

Mr. Taylor was a self-employed home builder for many years. He was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran church, where he taught Sunday school and served on the Building Committee. He enjoyed going for drives, coffee, playing cards and especially time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Cel (Dick) Louks of Stewartville; a son, Lyndon (Linda) of Stewartville; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Floyd (Evelyn) of Hayfield and John of Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Dulcie (House) Taylor; and a sister, Nadine Stiles.

Funeral services for Mr. Taylor were held Nov. 23 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stewartville. A private family burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Stewartville.

The family suggests memorials to St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville was in charge of arrangements.
