James ‘Joe’ Rowe — Cresco, Iowa

A memorial service for James "Joe" Rowe will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in LeRoy, with the Rev. Steve Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.

Mr. Rowe, 64, formerly of LeRoy, died Sunday (Nov. 23, 2008) at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wis.

James Joseph Rowe was born Sept. 16, 1944, in Austin, and attended LeRoy-Ostrander High School. In 1964 he entered the Navy, serving until 1968. He married Ida Hockens in California in 1967, and following his discharge returned to LeRoy and went to work in the family Redi Mix business. The family sold the business in the early 1990s. Mr. Rowe and his wife were divorced in 1999.

In 2000 he married Sharon Throckmorton in Cresco, Iowa. Mr. Rowe was currently working at Featherlite in Cresco. He enjoyed his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, Mopar Classic Cars, and HAM radio.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Edgar (Paige) of Leroy and Jason of the Twin Cities; three stepsons, Corey Throckmorton of Lime Springs, Iowa, Matthew Throckmorton and Ryan Throckmorton, both of Preston; two grandchildren; and a brother, Scott (Chris) of LeRoy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar "Choke" and Helen (Regan) Rowe; and a brother, Jack.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hindt Funeral Home in LeRoy, and an hour before the service Friday at the church.
