ROSE CREEK — The funeral Mass for Charles John Schwartz will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rose Creek, with the Revs. James J. Seitz and Clayton Haberman officiating. Interment will be in St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery.

Mr. Schwartz, 82, of Rose Creek died Friday (Nov. 21, 2008) at Stewartville Care Center.

He was born Dec. 31, 1925, in Rose Creek, and was a 1943 graduate of Austin High School. He bought the farmstead where he farmed his entire life. He drove an ambulance and taxi in Austin, and also a bus for the Oak Grove Activity Center. He retired in 1989.


On Nov. 5, 1988, he married Roberta Jean "Bertie" Hale at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Mr. Schwartz was a member of St. Peter’s Parish and served on the church council. He was a charter member of the Lady Slipper Model A Club, and in his spare time enjoyed antique cars, playing the accordion, polka dancing and playing cards. He was known to ride his bike to church on Sundays and to Austin to pick up his car from the repair shop.

Survivors include his wife; a sister, Rita (Lynn) DeRemer of Austin; a brother, Lawrence of Austin; nieces and nephews; and in-laws, Charles and Helen Hale of Rochester. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Elizabeth (Fink) Schwartz; two sisters and a brother; a sister-in-law and two brothers-in-law.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary in Austin, with a Rosary at 4 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. Friends also may call an hour before the service Wednesday at the church in Rose Creek.

The family prefers memorials to Mayo Clinic or St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
