U.S. Rep. Jim Oberstar has had successful hip replacement surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester.

Oberstar’s office says that the congressman will resume his duties following a rehabilitation period of two to three weeks.

Four months ago, the 73-year-old congressman underwent successful neck surgery. The two surgeries are unrelated. The latest surgery was done because of arthritis in the hip that’s gotten progressively worse.

The Minnesota Democrat chairs the House Transportation Committee.
