MINNEAPOLIS -- New Maryland women's basketball coach Brenda Oldfield says she's "disturbed" that her former boss says she left Minnesota because the state lacked basketball talent.
Oldfield tells the St. Paul Pioneer Press she never said that. Minnesota women's athletic director Chris Voelz says Oldfield told her one reason she was leaving was that the talent base in Minnesota could not win a national championship.
Oldfield says that comment was "completely false and inaccurate." The coach says she wouldn't have signed three Minnesota players before leaving if she had felt that way.
