Orchestra performs free for Sommerfest

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Orchestra will perform a free symphony concert at 8 p.m. July 11 at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis. The first-come, first-seated Sommerfest concert will feature pianist William Wolfram performing Beethoven's Piano Concert No. 1.

The concert is part of the third annual Marshall Field's Day of Music, 24 hours of music in and around Orchestra Hall, which begins at noon July 11 and continues until noon July 12.

The orchestra will continue its Sommerfest performance at 8 p.m. July 12 with another all-Beethoven performance. James Ehnes will perform the Violin Concerto and Wolfram will perform the Fifth Piano Concerto. Tickets are $21, $27, $36 and $45.

At 7 p.m. July 13, Ehnes and Wolfram will again join the orchestra for a Beethoven chamber program featuring the Trio for violin, viola and cello in C minor and the Duo No. 3 for clarinet and bassoon. Ehnes and Wolfram will also present the Sonata for violin and piano in C minor. General admission tickets are $17.
