P-B Charities discontinues fireworks show

Post-Bulletin staff

Post-Bulletin Charities, which supports Rochester area community efforts on behalf of the Post-Bulletin, has announced that it won’t sponsor the annual Fourth of July fireworks show in Silver Lake Park next year.

The charitable organization has underwritten the annual fireworks show for more than 40 years, said Post-Bulletin Publisher Randy Chapman. Rochester Mayor Ardell Brede was informed of the decision Monday so that city and community leaders can begin exploring other funding for next summer.

"Post-Bulletin Charities has taken great pride in presenting an extraordinary fireworks show for the Rochester community for many years," Chapman said, adding that the P-B and its charitable arm will assist the city in promoting the Fourth of July celebration and share its expertise in presenting fireworks shows.
