MANKATO — An early lead didn’t last for the Austin Packers boys soccer team in a 3-1 loss to Mankato West on Thursday.

This Big Nine Conference game was tied 1-1 at halftime, but the Mankato West Scarlets then scored a pair of goals in the second half to record the win.

The visiting Packers struck first in this conference contest. Alex Klock of Austin scored the game’s first goal about midway through the first half. The goal by Klock came off a crossing pass from Will Darling.

Packers goalie Ryan Rasell was able to keep the Scarlets offense at bay for most of the first half, but a penalty kick erased the lead. The Scarlets scored on the penalty kick late in the first half and tied the game at intermission.

The conference game against Rochester John Marshall which was rained out this past Tuesday, will be made up a week from Saturday to concluded the regular season.
