Packers close regular season with sweep

A long week of matches to end the regular season for Austin girls tennis was capped off with a 7-0 victory over Rochester John Marshall on Thursday at Wescott Field.

The Austin Packers won all of their matches in straight sets in this Big Nine Conference dual meet. Autumn Jurgensen had the quickest match for the Packers; she lost only one game in the two sets at No. 2 singles.

"It was nice to end the regular season with a victory at home," Austin coach Josh Bendickson said. "We’ll work on a few things in practice to prepare for the Big Nine Meet, but overall the girls are doing many things very well mentally and physically. The junior varsity and B-squad ended their season, and we would like to congratulate them on a great year."

The Packers have unofficially secured home matches for the first rounds of section play on Tuesday and Thursday. Before they get into the postseason tournament, the Austin girls will play in the conference meet.

Austin finishes the regular season 16-1 overall, 8-1 in the conference. The Big Nine Meet begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Rochester outdoor courts off of Highway 52.
