Packers get ready for Elite Meet

Preparing for the upcoming Elite Meet, the runners for the Austin Packers boys track and field team put up some solid times in their home opener.

Austin took the top spot in its home triangular meet on Tuesday at the Larry Gilbertson Track. The host Packers were first with 87 team points, the Mankato West Scarlets were second at 65, and the Albert Lea Tigers were third with 31 team points.

The Packers won all of the relay events in the home meet. The 4 x 400 and 4 x 800 relay teams will likely be invited to the Elite Meet at Hamline University in St. Paul.

Henry Darling in the 400 meters, and Will Darling in the 300 hurdles will also be in the Elite Meet. Both of the Darling boys won those respective races by wide margins in Tuesday's triangular meet.

"The guys all did a good job in the first home meet of the season, and now we have a tough week ahead," Austin coach Tony Einertson said. "After running on Friday night in the Twin Cities, we come back for our big home meet on Saturday."

The Packers Invitational with seven teams total takes place on Saturday at the Gilbertson Track starting at 10 a.m.
