Packers set new record in field events

Post-Bulletin staff

Field events were the highlights for the Austin Packers in Tuesday's girls track and field triangular even though they were missing one of their top competitors.

Faribault won the Big Nine Conference triangular at the Gilbertson Track with 92.5 points. Rochester Century was next with 57.5, and Austin finished with 36 team points on the day.

Sabrina Snater, who competed in the triple jump at last week's Hamline Elite Meet, was out of the lineup due to sickness. Carolyn Hackel of Austin was also out sick.

Still, the Packers picked up points out in the field. Abby Snater won the pole vault and set a new school record. She cleared the bar at 9-feet-9 inches and eclipsed the old mark by three inches.

Haley Splinter of Austin ran to the top spot in the 1,600 meters and also placed second in the 800 meters.
