Panel will provide information about ID theft

Preventing identity theft and other crimes of the information age will be the focus of a panel discussion by prosecutors and law enforcement officers in Rochester this month.

Olmsted County Attorney Ray Schmitz said the program is being jointly sponsored by the Minnesota County Attorneys Association and AARP of Minnesota. Schmitz said it is open to the public and is particularly geared to senior citizens, who often are targets of such crimes. Panel members will provide tips on preventing identity theft and discuss other crimes against seniors and vulnerable adults.

Amy Klobuchar, Hennepin County attorney and president of the Minnesota County Attorney's Association, will join Schmitz and local law enforcement officials on the panel. The free seminar will be from 9 a.m to 11:30 a.m. Sept. 17 at the Elks Lodge. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.
