MABEL -- A funeral Mass for Patricia Mengis will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Olaf Catholic Church in Mabel, with the Rev. Gregory Leif officiating. Burial will be in Mabel Public Cemetery.
Mrs. Mengis, 98, of Mabel, died Monday (Oct. 11, 2004) at Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel, where she had lived several years.
Patricia Roberts was born March 17, 1906, near Ostrander and graduated from LeRoy High School. On April 2, 1927, she married Ferdinand J. Mengis in Austin. They operated funeral homes in different cities for more than 50 years. They were in Winnebago, Minn., until 1943, then in Buffalo, Minn., for a year and then in Spring Valley until moving to Mabel in 1954. Mr. Mengis died Oct. 1, 1977. She was a member of St. Olaf Catholic Church in Mabel and the Altar Society.
Survivors include two sons, James (Eileen) of Iowa City, Iowa, and Thomas (LaVonne) of Mabel; a daughter, Mary Ann McDermott of Woodbury, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a grandson; four sisters and two brothers.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel, where there will be a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., and an hour before the service Friday at the church.
