ROCHESTER -- A funeral Mass for Paula Kay Elder will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Resurrection Catholic Church, with Monsignor Donald P. Schmitz officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Mrs. Elder, 50, of Rochester, a longtime Mayo Clinic employee, died Thursday (June 19, 2003) at her home following a brief illness.
Paula Kay Melchior was born Sept. 3, 1952, in Pierre, S.D. On Oct. 12, 1974, she married Rob Elder in Belle Plaine, Minn. They had lived in Rochester since 1975. Mrs. Elder worked at the clinic for 29 years and was a cancer research technician. Her husband is a partner in Hiller's Flooring America. She was an active member of Resurrection Catholic Church, volunteered with the Rochester Catholic school system and enjoyed gardening reading and watching her children's sports.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Alan (Jaime Hanson) of Chicago, Joseph (Annie Almazar) of Rochester and William at home; her father and stepmother, Paul Melchior and Phyllis Eix of Park Rapids, Minn.; a brother, Jerome Melchior of Apple Valley, Minn.; and a sister, Mary Ann (Chuck) Vermeersch of Little Canada, Minn. She was preceded in death by her mother and a brother
Friends may call at the church from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and an hour before the service Monday. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church.
