Local individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to improve their communities will be honored in a National Philanthropy Day luncheon on Tuesday in Rochester.

The luncheon, hosted by the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ southern Minnesota chapter, will be in the Galleria Ballroom at the Radisson Plaza Hotel. The event starts at 11:45 a.m.

Awards will be given to an individual philanthropist, a philanthropic organization, a top volunteer fund-raiser, and a youth philanthropist. A President’s Award prize will go to another top philanthropic individual.

Besides the luncheon, National Philanthropy Day activities include a networking breakfast and a day-long workshop for fund-raising professionals and board members.

Internationally recognized philanthropic leader William T. Sturtevant, vice president for principal gifts at the University of Illinois Foundation, will lead the workshop, titled "Cultivating and Soliciting the Major Gift." Sturtevant will also deliver a keynote address at the luncheon.
