Phyllis I. Johnson — Hayfield


HAYFIELD — The funeral for Phyllis I. Johnson of Hayfield will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Evanger Lutheran Church in rural Sargeant, with the Rev. James Peterson officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Johnson, 82, formerly a longtime Rochester resident, died Saturday (May 31, 2008) at Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield.

Phyllis Fosse was born July 7, 1925, in Hayfield, and graduated from Hayfield High School. She married Maurice Johnson on June 15, 1946, at Evanger Lutheran Church in rural Sargeant. They lived in Rochester for 51 years, where she worked as a clerk at Woolworths. The couple returned to Hayfield in 2002.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of Evanger Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed baking, cooking, playing cards, casinos and entertaining her family and friends.


She is survived by her husband; a son, DeBlonde (Mary) Johnson of Deerwood, Minn.; and a daughter, Lisa (Bill) Burt of Rochester. Other survivors include four grandchildren, Thad Johnson, Neil Johnson, Alec Burt and Emily Burt; and three great-grandchildren, Rachel Johnson, Cade Johnson and Luke Johnson. She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Czaplewski Family Funeral Home in Hayfield, and an hour before the service Wednesday at the church.
