Phyllis R. Scharpen -- Goodhue

GOODHUE -- The funeral for Phyllis R. Scharpen will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Goodhue, with the Rev. Andy Krause officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Scharpen, 92, of Goodhue, died Saturday morning (Oct. 16, 2004) at Zumbrota Nursing Home.

Phyllis Rebecca Vieths was born May 29, 1912, in Goodhue. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school. On Sept. 10, 1935, she married Henry A. Scharpen at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Goodhue. The couple farmed in rural Goodhue, retiring in 1974, but continuing to live on the farm. Mr. Scharpen died Oct. 21, 1995. In March of 1996, Mrs. Scharpen moved to Goodhue. She was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, a member of its ladies aid and enjoyed church activities. She was also a member of the Homemakers Group and enjoyed piano, gardening and baking.

Survivors include a daughter, Gwen (Ralph) Stehr of Goodhue, a son, Virgil (Arlene) of Stillwater, Minn.; five grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Mahn Family Funeral Home-Larson Chapel in Zumbrota is in charge of arrangements.
