PI's Schroeder strikes out 15, shuts out Stewartville

Steph Schroeder was dazzling Tuesday night in Stewartville, striking out 15 and walking none as Pine Island roared to a 7-0 win over Stewartville in Hiawatha Valley League softball.

Schroeder also allowed just three hits.

Megan Murray had three hits for the Panthers. Beth Hemann, Audrey Lenoch and Steph Schroeder had two each. Pine Island finished with 12 hits.

Hannah Garry had two hits for Stewartville and five stolen bases.

HIAWATHA VALLEY LEAGUE

Hayfield 16, Lake City 0 (5 inn.)

Hayfield combined seven hits with five walks and five Lake City errors, beating the Tigers in five innings in Lake City. Megan Emerick and Melanie Masching had two hits each for Hayfield. Amy Nelson was the winning pitcher, stopping L.C. on two hits, with five strikeouts.

Byron 7, Kasson-Mantorville 2

The Bears pounded 11 hits and took advantage of five K-M errors. Jo Maggert had three hits for Byron. Chelsi Nelson had two hits, including a double.

Hannah Murray tossed a three-hitter for Byron while striking out seven. Megan Dorschner had two hits for K-M.

Cotter 15, Triton 2 (5 innings)

Kelly Kukowski was 3-for-4, and Leah Troke, Jessica Weisbrod and Katie Landowskie each went 2-for-4 to lead Cotter's 16-hit attack in this game at Triton. The Ramblers' Toni Kujak pitched the distance and struck out nine, walking two and allowing four hits. Jacque Gadient tripled for Triton (1-2, 1-3).

Zumbrota-Mazeppa 12, Cannon Falls 2 (6 innings)

Kara Rude went 4-for-5 to lead Z-M to a 10-run win at Cannon. The Cougars benefited from eight walks in the first three innings.

THREE RIVERS CONFERENCE

Elgin-Millville 18, Goodhue 4

Elgin-Millville banged out 16 hits and ended the game with visiting Goodhue after five innings. For E-M (4-2), Kali Olstad went 4-for-4 and had two RBI and a double. Candace Olstad was 3-for-3 with four RBI and a double. She also pitched a complete game and allowed only two hits, with five strikeouts.

St. Charles 9, Lewiston-Altura 3

Kate Peterson hit a solo home run and a single, and also picked up the pitching win for St. Charles. L-A finished with eight errors. The Cardinals got a two-run home run from Kate Meilner.

Dover-Eyota 8, Kingsland 2

Jenny Yust belted a home run and a triple to guide the Eagles in Spring Valley. Sarah Brandt turned in a strong pitching performance for D-E, giving up just two hits. Shelly Loftus had two hits for the Eagles.

SOUTHEAST CONFERENCE

S.G./Caledonia 1, F.C./Lanesboro 0

S.G./Caledonia 3, F.C./Lanesboro 2

Spring Grove/Caledonia won a pair of low-scoring games with visiting Fillmore Central/Lanesboro, behind two complete games from pitcher Bethany Bergsgaard. She scattered three hits and nine strikeouts in the first game, with a four-hitter and four K's in the second. SGC won the first game on Vanessa Augedahl's run-scoring triple to left-center with one out in the seventh.

In the second game, SGC scored all three of its runs in the third inning. Laura Storlie provided a two-run double. SGC's defense had a 5-2-3 double play in the fifth to stop a FCL rally. SGC improved to 5-2 overall, 5-1 in the conference.
