From staff reports
Police hope to wrap up their investigation this week into an incident that occurred July 23 on the playground of Sunset Terrace School in northwest Rochester.
Witnesses attending a youth baseball game that night have told police that a 14-year-old boy was setting off fireworks near other children and adults asked him to stop.
An off-duty Olmsted County sheriff's deputy was present and joined other adults in confronting the boy, police have said.
The mother of the boy contends the adults used unnecessary force and beat up her son. She has filed a complaint with the sheriff's department.

Sheriff Steve Borchardt has said that when the police department concludes its investigation, his department will make an evaluation to see if any internal action is warranted.
Capt. Jim Pittenger said investigators hope to complete their interviews with witnesses this week. The reports then will be forwarded to the Olmsted County Attorney's office for review and a determination if any charges should be filed.
