Pops Orchestra ready with a 'Christmas Wish' concert

If it's your Christmas wish to see one more holiday concert this season, the Rochester Pops Orchestra 's concert is arriving just in time.

The orchestra will present "A Christmas Wish"at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Century High School auditorium, 2525 Viola Road NE.

Guest vocalists are Leslie Meyerand Laurie Helmers. The concert will include selections from Irving Berlin's "White Christmas," Mannheim Steamroller's "Stille Nacht," the Trans Siberian Orchestra's "A Mad Russian's Christmas," and "The Night Before Christmas" set to music and narrated by Tom Griffin.

The Rochester Pops Orchestra, now in its second season, is directed by Brock Besse.

Advance tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for senior citizens, $5 for ages 13-18 free for 12 and younger. Tickets will be $2 more at the door. For reservations, call 507-318-0801, or go to www.rochesterpops.com.

Line up 'Christmas in the City' concert Wednesday

Lorie Line will present her 26th annual Christmas concertat 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Mayo Civic Center's Presentation Hall, 30 Civic Center Drive SE.

Line is calling her show this year " Christmas in the City," and as always it features songs of the season in Line's upbeat arrangements, accompanied by the Fab Five and featured vocalist Tyler Wassburg.

Among the surprises, Line is inviting children from the audience to join her on stage for "The Twelve Days of Christmas."

Line, who majored in music in college at the University of Nevada, began her career by playing the piano for shoppers at the Dayton's department store in downtown Minneapolis. Before long she was recording CDs (48 to date) and publishing music books of her arrangements (45 so far) and playing concert tours. Her latest CD is "Christmas in the City."

In recognition of her career, Line was inducted in November into the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame.

All trombones and all Christmas at Charter House concert

Handel's "The Messiah"will get the trombone treatment in a Christmas concert by Trombones Anonymousat 2 p.m. Saturday at Charter House, 211 Second St. NW, Rochester.

One feature of the concert will be three pieces from "The Messiah" arranged for trombone choir and harpsichord. Other selections include "The Christmas Song," "Parade of the Wooden Soldiers," "Go Tell it on the Mountain," "Jingle Bells" and "Sleigh Ride."

Admission is free.
