SIBLEY, Iowa - When Julie Ackerman opened her ice cream shoppe in 2000, the name came naturally. The building featured a porch and it was on Main Street, The Porch On Main had a nice ring to it, she said.
The Porch On Main sandwiches are designed to suit everyone's tastes. Three different breads, Vienna Thick, Marble Rueben and Wheatberry; and two wraps, Cilantro/Basil and Spinach Wrap form the foundation of the sandwiches.
After their bread choice, customers select meats - turkey, ham, corned beef and chicken salad.
Sandwiches and wraps can be combined with salad or soup. For a smaller appetite, a half sandwich also is available.
The Raspberry Chicken Salad is popular. It's a chicken salad served on a bed of lettuce with cucumbers and tomatoes. Raspberry vinaigrette is drizzled on top along with sliced almonds.

Other treats include malts, smoothies and shakes and whips - Cookies N Cream, Reese's and Snickers. A local favorite is The Porch Special, a brownie topped with vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, whipped cream and a cherry.
"The challenge here goes out to ice cream lovers," Ackerman said. "Nearby is the historic landmark mound in Ocheyedan. The Porch On Main scoops up its namesake The Mound, which is six scoops of ice cream of your choice."
If diners can finish all six scoops, Ackerman said, they can sign the Mound Hall of Fame Wall.
The fastest time anyone has eaten The Mound was in five minutes. Recently, someone tried and failed to set the record. It took six minutes for them to eat two Mounds selections back-to-back. They only made it half way, but vowed to come back, Ackerman said.
Porch on Main also offers home decorations products, which provides Sibley residents with a convenient shopping opportunity.
