Post Office won’t be open late for tax returns

Post-Bulletin staff

If you’re looking to mail out your tax returns today, make sure to get to the post office early.

Previously, post offices in Rochester have stayed open late to allow for last-minute filers, but that won’t be the case this year, said Jeff Bernard, supervisor of customer service at Rochester’s main post office.

"It will be business as usual," he said. "The last couple years we haven’t seen a rush like we used to, so we won’t have any extended hours."

An electronic listing of the hours at 1-800-ASK-USPS says that two locations in Rochester will be open until 9:30 p.m. and will postmark returns until that time, but Bernard says that’s incorrect.

"The mail pick-up at those locations is 3:30 p.m.," he said. "Anything later than that will be postmarked for the next day."
