The 16th annual statewide Prairie Day, celebrated to highlight preserving and expanding prairie lands in Minnesota, will be observed Aug. 10 at Chester Woods Park, east of Rochester on U.S. 14.
The schedule is:
7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., birding walk, meet at the boat landing parking lot.
8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m., welcome.

9 a.m. to 11 a.m. morning hike to oak savanna and sand prairie.
9 a.m. to 9:25 a.m., children's program.
9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., horse-drawn covered wagon trip to goat prairie.
11:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., children's program on how settlers used prairie plants and also adults' program on tools used to restore prairie.
Noon to 1 p.m., lunch.
1 p.m. to 3 p.m., canoe trip to a remote prairie.
1 p.m. to 2 p.m., butterfly walk.
No pre-registration is needed, and there is no charge for the programs or lunch (donations will be accepted), but vehicles entering the park need a $3 daily pass or a $12 annual pass.
