An apparent homicide-suicide has claimed the lives of a father and son at their home in Northwest Rochester.

Rochester police identified the two as Maxwell Artem Pearson, 18, and Gary Raymond Pearson, 61.

Police were called to the scene, a home in the 1500 block of Eighth Avenue Northwest, shortly before 4 p.m. Monday. A woman returned home to the residence and found her son had been shot, Capt. Casey Moilanen said Tuesday morning.

When officers arrived, they found a 61-year-old male in another area of the property. He had also been shot, Moilanen said. Neither man could be revived. Both lived at the address.

Police said it appears the incident was a homicide-suicide but are still waiting for autopsy results and further investigation before making a determination. Police recovered a gun from the scene.

Olmsted County property records show that the family has lived at the home since August 2016.

Preliminary evidence at the scene indicated there was no danger to the general public.

The deaths are the second and third Rochester-area homicide deaths this year. In March, a passing motorist found 28-year-old Garad Hassan Roble dead on a road in rural southeast Rochester. Authorities made an arrest in that case last month, but believe at least one other person was involved in the homicide.
