A group of young people will likely face criminal charges after a fight broke out following an argument between a former couple.

Rochester police were called to the 2000 block of 16 1/2 Street Northwest around 10:15 p.m. for a report of a fight, Capt. Casey Moilanen said.

An 18-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man she used to date had a verbal confrontation that resulted in a physical altercation. The woman told police the man punched her, but the man told police the woman assaulted him.

Friends of the woman were in a nearby residence and saw the altercation and then joined in. A total of eight people, ranging in age from 15 to 22, were involved.

One man was hit in the head with a rock or brick. He told police he lost consciousness briefly.

The 18-year-old woman and the man who was hit with an object were evaluated by Mayo Ambulance, Moilanen said.

All eight could be charged with third-degree riot.
