LEWISTON — A school district employee was arrested Thursday at Lewiston-Altura High School for alleged criminal activity related to child pornography.

Superintendent Jennifer Backer-Johnson did not name the individual. A call to the Winona County Sheriff’s Office for more information was not immediately returned.

“We have been cooperating and will continue to cooperate with law enforcement throughout this investigation,” Backer-Johnson said in a note sent to parents in the district. “Safety of our students is a number one priority.”

Based on current information, she said, the alleged illegal activity does not involve any students or other employees.

Thursday was the last student day for the 2018-19 school year according to the district calendar on the Lewiston-Altura website.

Backer-Johnson noted that the alleged criminal activity and arrest on the school campus are law enforcement matters, and she referred any further questions to the Winona County Sheriff’s Office.
