Hail and heavy rain will pelt Southeast Minnesota late tonight and early Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in La Crosse.

The rain should start around midnight as thunderstorms move into the area from the southwest. Showers and thunderstorms will spread across the area overnight tonight into early Sunday with some storms producing heavy rainfall, isolated large hail or strong winds, the NWS reports.

The rain will continue through mid-morning Sunday.

The storms could damage property, homes or crops due to hail, and with wind gusts posing trouble for trees and power lines. Localized flooding is possible, the NWS advises.

Rochester Emergency Management Director Ken Jones said Movies in the Park could be impacted if the storms arrive early, though the NWS at this time predicts the storms will arrive after the activity is completed.
