Tractor accident

Minnesota State Patrol, Olmsted Sheriff, Stewartville first responders and Mayo One respond to a crash on Minnesota Highway 30 east of Stewartville last week. A vehicle collided with a sprayer tractor.

STEWARTVILLE — A Stewartville man suffered life threatening injuries Tuesday morning when his car collided with a sprayer tractor as the car tried to pass the farm vehicle.

The Minnesota State Patrol received a call shortly before 9:30 a.m. to the 3500 block of Minnesota Highway 30 Southeast in Stewartville near its intersection with Olmsted County Road 1, Sgt. Troy Christianson said.

Larry June Turner, 80, sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash, according to information from the Minnesota State Patrol.

A 2017 John Deere crop sprayer was westbound with a number of vehicles behind it when Turner and his 2004 Volkswagen Jetta tried to pass, Christianson said. At the same time, the tractor began making a left turn into a field drive and was struck by the Jetta.

The car sustained significant damage to its front end, and Turner was taken to the hospital by Mayo One.

The tractor sustained damage to its left tire. Its driver, 49-year-old Rodney Dean Krell, of Blooming Prairie, was uninjured.

The road was closed for about two hours as emergency crews responded and investigators completed a map reconstruction of the crash site. The road was re-opened around 11:30 a.m., according to Christianson.
