The National Weather Service in La Crosse, Wis. issued a tornado watch through much of the area Tuesday as severe storms are predicted. The watch includes Olmsted, Winona, Dodge, Fillmore, Goodhue, Mower and Wabasha counties and is in effect until midnight.
The weather service is forecasting widespread severe storms across the area this evening. The greatest risk for severe weather is in Southeast Minnesota, Northeast Iowa, and West-Central Wisconsin.
Large hail is the main threat, with chances of high winds and an isolated tornado associated with the forecast storms.
Storms are expected to develop in the area beginning at about 7 p.m., with the chances of storms peaking at about 8 p.m.
The weather service advises people to monitor weather conditions this evening and know where to seek shelter when storms approach your location.
