A 32-year-old man was arrested Friday night after allegedly attempting to assault his ex-girlfriend and injuring two police officers in a struggle.

Police were called at 9:38 p.m. to a residence in the 1100 block of Fifth Avenue Northwest, where Phillip Berg allegedly kicked down the front door, rushed to a back room and confronted the ex-girlfriend, who had a Domestic Assault No Contact Order (DANCO) against him, said Police Lt. Gretchen O'Neil.

Berg reportedly grabbed the woman, but she was able to get away. Two people in the house attempted to restrain Berg until police arrived, and both were allegedly assaulted by Berg, O'Neil said.

When police arrived, Berg refused to comply with instructions and became physical with the officers. Two officers were injured, O'Neil said, with one being treated at the hospital and later released.

Berg is being held in the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center facing possible charges of felony domestic assault, DANCO violation, felony first-degree burglary, felony fourth-degree assault, fifth-degree assault, obstruction with force, felony stalking and damage to property.
