Quick goal sets up Gophers

MINNEAPOLIS — Goals from three different players lifted the No. 2 ranked University of Minnesota women’s hockey team earned a 3-1 win over No. 9 Harvard Friday at Ridder Arena.

Monique Lamoureux set the pace early for the Gophers (12-2-1), scoring just 32 seconds into the contest. With play mostly in the neutral zone, each team only managed five shots in the first period.

After the two teams went scoreless in the second period, Minnesota added two goals. by Kelli Blankenship and Brittany Francis. Alyssa Grogan had another stellar night in goal for Minnesota with 19 saves.

The two teams complete the series today at 3:07 p.m. at Ridder Arena.
