Two former Rochester high school hockey standouts, and a trio of former Minnesota Ice Hawks have helped the Alexandria Blizzard reach the second round of the North American Hockey League Junior A, Tier II playoffs.
Rochester Century graduate Garrett Grimstad and Rochester Lourdes grad Brandon Bahnemann are first-year players for the Blizzard, which defeated the Owatonna-based Southern Minnesota Express in the first round of the NAHL playoffs.
Former Ice Hawks players Jerry Freismuth, Jon MacRae and Mikael Lickteig are also on the Blizzard’s roster.
The Blizzard face the Springfield Jr. Blues in a second round series, beginning tonight at Alexandria. Game 2 of the best three-out-of-five series is Saturday at Alexandria, with the series shifting to Springfield for Games 3 and 4 on April 25 and 26. A Game 5, if needed, is set for April 27 at Alexandria.

The winner of the series advances to the Robertson Cup playoffs, the NAHL’s final four, which is scheduled for April 30 to May 4 at St. Louis.
