LYLE — Randy Dwight Ziegler, age 58 of the Lyle-London area, died Monday, June 1, 2009, at the Minneapolis Veterans Hospital after a brief battle with cancer.
He was born October 10, 1950, to Donald Dean and Dona Jean (Johannsen) Ziegler in Osage, Iowa. A 1968 graduate of Lyle High School, Randy served his country with the U.S. Marines from 1968 until 1971. A Viet Nam veteran, he belonged to Lyle American Legion Post 105. He married Vickie Vosburgh on June 8, 1974. They were later divorced. Past Fire Chief of London and a self-employed painter, Randy was employed by Zareba Industries in Ellendale.
Survivors include his mother, Dona Ziegler of Lyle; two daughters, Megan and Sarah Ziegler of Austin; one granddaughter, Alyssa Bos; two brothers, Darwin (Kathy) Ziegler of Farmington and Gary (Cindy) Ziegler of Lyle; former spouse, Vickie Ziegler. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald; a sister, Gail; special friend, Marion Sorenson and his grandparents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2009, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Austin with Rev. Dr. Andrew Lindahl officiating. Interment will be in Union Presbyterian Cemetery, Stacyville, Iowa. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
