Raymond Henry Holets -- Chatfield

CHATFIELD -- The funeral for Raymond Henry Holets will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield, with the Rev. Eugene Larrabee officiating. Burial will be in the Chatfield Cemetery, with military rites by Eyota American Legion Post 551.

Mr. Holets, 73, of Stewartville, formerly of Chatfield and Dexter, died Friday (July 18, 2003) at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester, where he had been a patient about seven weeks.

Born Aug. 23, 1929, in Orion Township, rural Chatfield, he served in the Navy from 1946 to 1952 and received his GED in 1947 while in the Navy. He married Lois Kohn, and they were later divorced. For 25 years he lived in Sacramento, Calif., where he was a custodian at a high school and worked for Standard Oil Co., then lived in Dexter for 15 years and was a truck driver for ITT. He moved to Stewartville seven months ago. Mr. Holets was a member of American Legion Post 551 of Eyota and the Chatfield VFW. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth of Mankato and Ronald (Kathy) of Rochester; two daughters, Karen (Duane) Nihart of Eyota and Diane Holets of Hamburg, Minn.; eight grandchildren; a great-grandson; three brothers, Howard (Lois), Herbert (Sylvia) and Joseph (Marie), all of Rochester; and a sister, Erlene (Victor) Rions of Rochester. A granddaughter preceded him in death.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the service Tuesday at the funeral home.
