KENYON -- The funeral for Raymond Orlando Strandemo will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kenyon, with the Rev. Luther Mathsen officiating. Burial will be in the Kenyon Cemetery.
Mr. Strandemo, 81, of Kenyon, a former farmer and school bus driver, died Tuesday (Oct. 12, 2004) at his home.
Born Aug. 5, 1923, in Ellington Township, Dodge County, he graduated from Kenyon High School in 1942, attended Moland Lutheran Church and attended St. Olaf College before returning to the farm. On Jan. 16, 1944, he married Eileen "Sid" Hanson at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kenyon. In addition to farming, he was a buttermaker in Stewartville and Kenyon, worked at Goodhue Canning Co., and was a custodian and bus driver for the Kenyon school district. During the 1940s and 1950s he played on the Southern Minny and Cannon Valley baseball leagues. His interests included gardening, feeding the birds, following local athletic events, woodworking, pitching horseshoes, playing the harmonica and spending summers at a cabin on Lake Miltona.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Dr. Gary (Barbara) of St. Cloud, Davis of Anoka, Minn., and Mark of Kenyon; two daughters, Ann (Dale) Stensland of Wanamingo and Mary Kay (Rick) Ohland of Eagan, Minn.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Hazel Dale of Kenyon. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Hanson Funeral Home in Kenyon and an hour before the service Saturday at the church
