Rochester Community and Technical College broke out in the second game to earn a split with Minnesota West on Tuesday in community college baseball.
Host RCTC dropped the first game 13-0 in five innings before bouncing back to capture the second game 11-3.
"The second game we just had a better overall plan of attack," RCTC coach Steve Hucke said. "At the plate, we swung the bats better."
Matt Cowdin was 3-for-4 for Minnesota West in the opener with four RBIs. He hit a three-run homer and a triple.
Matt Kohn and Mark Aiello were both 3-for-4 in the nightcap for the Yellowjackets. Aiello scored three runs and Kohn two. Jerry Mock was 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a double.

Lee Dolan was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs for RCTC while Kyle Strand went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Kellen Rendler had two RBIs.
John Aaland pitched a four-hit complete game for the win.
"John pitched very well," Hucke said. "He had good command of his stuff and had decent defensive effort behind him."
RCTC (3-5 MCCC South, 4-24 overall) will play host to Pillsbury Baptist Bible College on Thursday at 2 p.m.

Tough Game 2 loss

WORTHINGTON, Minn. — Rochester Community and Technical College split softball games Tuesday with Minnesota West Community College, just missing a sweep as it allowed seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in the second game, a 9-8 loss.
The Yellowjackets won the first game 14-0. Jill Johnson had three hits, and Kate Richards, Jess O’Leary, Cassie Holmes, Lindsey Gjere and Sarah Mainz all had two for RCTC. O’Leary had four RBIs and Holmes had two doubles.
Mel Schmidt was the winning pitcher. She allowed four hits and struck out five.
In Game 2, RCTC was up 8-2 going into the seventh inning, then allowed seven runs in the frame and lost. Minnesota West had five hits in the inning.
Erin Tilford had three hits and two stolen bases for RCTC.
The Yellowjackets are 8-10 overall and play at Fergus Falls Community College at 3 p.m. Friday.
