ST. CLOUD — Rochester Community and Technical College swept a doubleheader from St. Cloud Tech on Monday to clinch a berth in the Minnesota Community College Conference state softball tournament.
"It feels more settling," RCTC co-coach Paula Carlsen said of the state berth. "Especially because of all the makeup games and the fact they have all meant something."
The Yellowjackets beat St. Cloud Tech 15-0 in five innings, and 5-2.
RCTC set the stage early by scoring seven runs in the top of the first inning of the opener.

"It was nice to get off the bus and have all those hitters come through," Carlsen said. "We jumped on it right away."
RCTC had 10 doubles on the day, six in the opener. It collected 20 hits in the first game.
Britni Mensink was 4-for-4 with three doubles and five RBIs in the opener. Amy Fordham was 3-for-4, while Katie Lynch was 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Kayla Kinniry and Kassie Holmes were both 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Sami Rossi won the opener and pitched two innings in the nightcap for the save. Whitney Hawes made her first appearance in a month because of a rotator injury. She pitched five innings to collect the win in the second game.
Mackey was 2-for-4, and she hit a two-run double in the fifth to snap a 1-1 tie in the nightcap.
"That was a big hit to get us rolling," Carlsen said.
RCTC (16-10, 10-6 MCCC South) plays at Riverland in a doubleheader 3:30 p.m. today. The Yellowjackets close the regular season at home against Minnesota State-Fergus Falls in a doubleheader at 3 p.m. Wednesday. The state tournament will then be played on Saturday and Sunday in St. Cloud.
