'Reading with Dad' author to speak at literacy banquet

From staff reports

"Celebrate Literacy" is the theme for the Southeast Minnesota Reading Council's spring banquet set for April 23 at Willow Creek Golf Course. Richard Jorgensen, author of "Reading with Dad," will highlight the program, and winners of the Celebrate Literacy Awards will be recognized, along with the student designer of the state "I Love to Read" button.

Three Celebrate Literacy Awards will be presented, including a posthumous award to Chatfield benefactor Alice Groen, the Friends of the Rochester Public Library organization for its "Read with Me Program," and "Lily, the Literacy Van."

Winner of the 2002 I Love to Read Button Contest is Jennifer Borell, daughter of Julie and Tom Borell and a Rochester Friedell Middle School student. Jennifer will be recognized for the button she designed last year as a sixth-grader in Joy Burson's art class.

The event will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Reservations for the banquet are due April 19 and should be sent with name, address and check to SEMRC treasurer Pat Ginther at Century High School, 2525 Viola Road, Rochester 55906. The cost is $20 for SEMRC members, $25 for non-members.
