ADAMS — The Southland volleyball team lost a close match to Riceville, Iowa on Monday night.
Riceville won three straight games at the end to take the match by a 3-2 margin. Riceville won by scores of 20-25, 18-25, 25-22, 25-23, and 15-8.
Southland individual statistics included: Ashley Felten 9 digs; Emily Heimer 12 digs; Emily Howton 15 set assists; Chelsea Miller 9 kills, 4 service aces; Amber O’Connell 15 digs; Heather Sheely 2 ace blocks; Chelsey Smith 14 kills, 11 digs, 2 aces, 2 ace blocks; and Ashlee Waller 15 assists.
"The girls worked hard right until the last point, but just couldn’t pull together the win," Southland coach Andrea McKichan said. "There was some miscommunication on the court and Riceville served the ball well. The combination of these two factors was enough for Riceville to come out on top."
Southland (5-13) plays a Three Rivers Conference match at Rushford-Peterson on Thursday night.
