Rebels girls still searching for first win Web

ROSE CREEK — The Southland Rebels softball team played competitively in the first game of Tuesday’s doubleheader against Chatfield.
After keeping the score tight in a 3-1 loss for the opener, the Southland girls got beat 15-5 in the late game of the Three Rivers Conference twinbill at the Rose Creek City Park.
In the first game, the Rebels were down 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth when they created some excitement on the bases and scored a run.
Ashley Holdgrafer started the Southland rally with a walk. Then after an out, Heather Sheely singled to put runners at the corners.
Another out followed for the Rebels, but Teryn Coffman then walked to load the bases. Rebels coach Greg Schulte next put the runners in motion and it led to a run.
"Shari Swenson was up and I decided to let the base runners make something happen," Schulte said. "Ashley stole home to get us a run, but Heather broke late and she was thrown out at third. The girls played hard, and we battled them the whole way in the first game."
The late game was a different story with the Chatfield Gophers winning via the 10-run rule in six innings.
Southland (0-9, 0-8 TRC) plays a makeup doubleheader with Rushford-Peterson at home on Friday.
