German luxury automaker BMW is recalling 56,000 X5 sport-utility vehicles and 38,700 Minis worldwide to fix transmission and brake problems.
The Mini and Mini Cooper have a problem with a cable connecting the gearshift to the gearbox, which could result in the car getting stuck in one gear.
The X5 has a problem with the brake pedal shaft, which could result in a sudden loosening of the pedal and loss of brake power at low speeds or while parking.
Remington hairdryers
Remington Products Co., LLC, is recalling 1,600-watt Remington Vortex Ultra hairdryers because they are missing a plug that cuts off electrical current when they touch water.

Kmart, Sears, Target and other retailers sold the hairdryers nationwide from July 2000 to January 2001.
The model V-1030 hairdryers have a 0-74590-87541-6 UPC number.

STK International Inc., of Los Angeles is recalling approximately 190,000 extension cords because their wires may not be able to carry the electrical load consumers expect, putting them in danger of shock.

Greenlee meters
Greenlee Textron Inc., of Rockford, Ill., is recalling about 650 electrical testing meters because they can give inaccurate readings, potentially misleading users about live current and leading to shock or electrocution.
This recall involves CM-700 and CM-750 model meters with serial numbers ranging from 0203540001 through 0203540650.
