RECREATION NOTES -- Ultimate Fighting show in Mason City

An Ultimate Fighting show will be held starting at 7 p.m. Saturday at IDRequired in Mason City. Tickets are $15.

Mason City fighters on the card include Jim Stepleton, Rory Prazak and Justin Green. Ten fights are scheduled.

Stewart, Herring, Cook swim

at Minnetonka Challenge

Rochester swimmer Jim Stewart was first overall and Vince Herring won his age group at the 16th annual Minnetonka Challenge 5-mile swim on July 27.

Stewart, 45, had a time of 1 hour, 44 minutes, 56 seconds. Herring, 59, had a person-best time of 2:09:25 in winning the men's 55-59 age group.

Also, Rochester's David Cook, 43, had a personal-best time of 2:22:06 and was sixth in his age group.

Holes-in-one

Dale Seltun of Rochester aced No. 4 at the Red Wing Country Club on Aug. 12. Seltun was using a 7-wood on the 175-yard hole. Witnesses were Mike Gorman, Bob Reiland and Ray Glowacki.

Skip Danewick aced the 147-yard seventh hole at St. Charles Golf Course on Aug. 12 using a 7-iron. He was playing with Mike Dass and Dan Tregilgas.

Reed Bjork, 9, aced the 115-yard third hole at the Byron Links course using a 3-wood. He was playing with his father, Tom Bjork.

Mike McKinley aced the 165-yard 15th hole at Willow Creek using a 6-iron. He was playing with Dave Erwin, Larry Blaiser and Matt Chenevert.

Upcoming tournaments

The Word of Life Church of God in Christ is hosting the first "Hotshot Classic'' three-on-three basketball tournament Aug. 31 at the Faith Christian School Gymnasium.

The tournament runs from 10 a.m.-2 p.m for ages 13-17 and 2-6 p.m. for ages 18-up.
