Recreational men's basketball division added

For the first time in Star of the North Games 16-year history, a recreational division will be added to the men's basketball competition.

The Games will be held in Rochester June 20-29, and are expected to draw over 8,000 athleter representing more than 265 communities.

Every year the Star of the North Games basketball tournament has some of the largest team participation numbers. An estimated 240 teams are expected to participate in seven different competition classes this year and of those classes, the adult men's divisions have been showing a steady increase in numbers. Last year, when the Games were held in St. Cloud, nearly 20 percent of the basketball teams consisted of adult men.

The tournament will take place at various locations throughout Rochester and surrounding areas on June 27-29. In addition to the adult divisions, boys and girls entering 6th-12th grade can participate. This is a 5-on-5 tournament, with each team guaranteed a minimum of three scheduled games.

Other sports this year include: archery, baseball, basketball, bowling, disc golf, diving, figure skating, 5k road race, golf, gymnastics, horseshoes, mountain biking, soccer, swimming, tennis, track and field, volleyball and weightlifting.
